Murphy-Morse 5K

IT’S BACK TO SATURDAY MORNING!

An additional 1 mile Fun Run route will be added this year! This new route will be the walking route and for anyone looking to run the event with a few less strides. One trip around the block will be the perfect alternative to our challenging historical 5k route. This Fun Run will be an incredible opportunity for kiddos to have a go at it independently and gain some serious confidence. All levels welcome!

Preregistration is preferred for both routes. T-Shirts will be included with the first 30 registrations for the MM5k and the Fun Run.

Registration/Check-in: 7:00am-8:00am. Shot gun start at: 8:30am!

$5.00 for students and $15.00 for 18+

Reach out to Annah White Brooks for more details: annah.brooks@wsesu.net

About the MM5K

Parents of Windsor Track & Field athletes, together with dedicated community members, made a promise: to ensure the track was well-maintained and the equipment cared for, even when the school budget couldn’t cover it. Out of that commitment, and with the generous support of Friends of Windsor Track, the MM5K was born.

Now, the MM5K is proudly sponsored by the Windsor Alumni Association as a highlight of the Annual Weekend Celebration. Together with the Track & Field athletic department, the Alumni Association continues to seek opportunities to support the program, helping to fund important expenses that fall outside the school’s budget and ensuring our athletes have the resources they need to thrive.

This annual fundraiser not only sustains the program’s needs but also stands as a proud symbol of our community’s dedication to supporting student athletes and keeping traditions alive for future generations.

COACH JIM MURPHY started his teaching and coaching career in Windsor in 1961. He coached Windsor’s Track Team for 26 years. He also coached Cross Country and Skiing during his tenure at Windsor. Jim was an accomplished athlete himself while in High School and Prep School; and was a member of the Football and Hockey Teams while attending Yale University. Major accomplishments of Jim’s coaching career included the creation of the First Women’s Track Program, VT State Cross Country Champs 1961; VT State Skiing Champs 1967; along with coaching numerous athletes to Individual State and New England Titles.

RHETT MORSE had a predisposition to track, likely due to his genetic relationship to Coach Murphy above – his grandfather. Rhett was well known for his performances in the 100M Dash, High Jump, Long Jump and Decathlon. He earned several State Championship Titles and still holds many places on the WHS Record Boards. One of his most notable achievements was winning the New England Decathlon Title in 1990. During his tenure at WHS he also ran Cross Country and competed in Alpine Skiing. After graduation, Rhett went on to ski for Castleton State College for one year before accepting a Full Track Scholarship to the University of Maine.
